Q: How does it work?
A: Everything is delivered online and easy. After purchasing a subscription you login and can start taking courses immediately. The courses are delivered as a narrated video where the instructor walks you through each slide. There's not much reading, it's mostly listening to the material. After the course, there is a quiz you must pass and then your certificate will be generated. You download your certificate as a PDF and keep a copy for your records. And then move on to the next course.
Q: How long are your courses?
A: Every course is one hour in length. One hour = one CE credit. We do have one course (Money Laundering) that is 3 hours long but it's split out into three one-hour segments so it's still easy to take.
Q: Is there a test/quiz/exam at the end of each course?
A: Yes. Every course has a quiz, there are usually 10-15 questions. All questions on the quiz are either multiple-choice or true/false. You need to get 60% or greater to pass. You must pass the quiz to get the certificate.
Q: What if I don't pass the quiz?
A: You can take it over again until you pass. We just want students to learn something new. The quiz is simply testing your knowlege of the material in the course.
Q: How difficult is the quiz?
A: All questions on the quiz are multiple choice or true/false. They're not difficult if you've listened to the course. A new feature we've added is the ability to see the quiz questions WHILE you are taking the course. That way, you can anticipate the answer to each question as it is covered in the course material. By the end of the course you'll have the answers ready to submit without any delay.
Q: What if I get interrupted while taking the course?
A: You can pause the course and come back later, skipping ahead to where you left off. Just like watching a video.
Q: Do you automatically renew my subscription each year?
A: No. We NEVER auto-renew. We just appreicate your business and hope you decide on your own to renew with us.
Q: Are your Life, A&S courses approved in Ontario?
A: Yes. The FSRA states that eligible topics for CE must be related to the technical aspects of life insurance or accident and sickness insurance. They cannot be courses that are production/sales related. All of the courses we show for Life, A&S in Ontario are technical courses that meet this criteria. Like most provincial regulatory bodies (except Alberta), the FSRA sets the standard that must be met and does not review individual courses except at their discretion. We've never had an issue with the FSRA and appreciate the flexibility they give to course providers.
Q: How long do you keep the certificates?
A: We keep them for ten years. If you ever get audited, we will always have a copy to prove you took the course. We track the date you took the course, the start/end times, and the score you received on the quiz. This removes any doubt that you took the course (and hopefully learned something new!).
Q: Do your courses work on my iPad, Android tablet, iPhone or Android smartphone?
A: Yes. Our courses work on all modern devices, from Windows, MacOS and Linux computers to iPads, iPhones, and all Android devices. If you ever experience a display issue with the device you are using, please contact us and let us know! Technology changes over time and we keep updating the website and course material so it works on every modern device out there.
Q: I don't want to give my credit card online, is there another way to pay?
A: Yes. You can call us and we can take your credit card over the phone -- but note that it's actually safer to just use our online payment form, that way we never even see your credit card. Alternatively, some people prefer to pay by cheque and we're happy to receive a cheque as payment. Just remember to add GST to the purchase price. We will need to wait for your cheque to be received before we enable your subscription, as in the past unfortunately we've had some issues with non-payment.
Q: Can I get a discount?
A: We often give out coupons at different times of the year. These will pop-up on various pages of the site if a coupon is available. New customers are encouraged to watch for coupons to pop-up on screen. For RETURNING customers, we definitely want to give you a discount. Call or email us and mention the fact that you're a returing customer and we'll give you a coupon code!
Q: I need 30 CE credits before my license expires in about a week, can you help?
A: Yes! The advantage of taking courses online is they're available 24/7. You can get all 30 credits from us with one subscription and no hidden fees. Nobody intends to leave everything to the last minute, but sometimes life gets in the way. If you're short on time we can definitely help! And getting your CE Credits will keep you compliant so you don't have issues with your license renewal.
Q: What if I get audited?
A: It's rare but it can happen. Don't worry, we've got your back. We keep track of each course you took: the date you took it, the start/end times, and the score you received on the quiz. And we keep a copy of all your certificates for ten years in case you lose them. In the rare situation when a provincial licensing body contacts us during an audit of an individual, we provide all the relevant information to them to ensure they are aware of the courses you took with us. And if needed we can provide a detailed course outline and transcript of the entire course that was delivered to demonstrate the material covered in the course.
Q: What does the certificate look like?
A: The format varies by license type and by province due to different requirements set by the licensing bodies. As an example, here's what the certificate looks like for a customer licensed for
Life, Accident and Sickness insurance in Alberta. Other provinces do not require we list out your CIPR license number on the certificate but it's a nice to have if you choose to give it to us.
